Select Aquatics
|
 |
|
|
Select Aquatics breeds affordable,
quality, specialty tropical fish for
hobbyists and conservation
research. Most are not often
seen and many are endangered
or extinct in the wild. This site
is also a one stop place for
fishkeeping information on how best to
keep these fish.
If you are keeping an aquarium,
you have the opportunity to help
preserve species that are about to
go extinct in the wild. As well, due
to increased export restrictions,
many species are at risk of
disappearing from the hobby.
The fish offered here are hardy,
generally not difficult to care
for, and may depend on
hobbyists such as yourself to
maintain their availability. |

New Shipping Info!

Select Aquatics
has qualified to ship fish with
another company at substantially lower rates,
and this past week (6-13), 5 test shipments
went well, with only one box arriving a day
late, with no losses.
I am now shipping fish with FedEx, at a one
price rate of $70 for a box of six 2-4 Month
Old Unsexed, or 5 young plecos, or two pair
(with one extra), plus the cost of the fish.
This is only within the United States, and is
the same for any destination.
I will continue shipping USPS 3-5 Day Priority
for the Levamisole kits,
the Perfect
Batch
Brine Shrimp
Hatcher, Rapid Grow Aquarium
Plant Fertilizer,
Sodium thiosulfate and any
Vinegar Eel or
Microworm cultures.
When you would like to order a species
listed above as available, please email
me at selectaquatics@gmail.com, please
include your ZIP Code, and I will send you
back a quote with the payment information
and the next available date to ship.
________________________________
Current temperatures are an issue, and losses
are minimal when shipped below 90° here and
at your destination. Colder water
Goodeids
should not be shipped in temperatures that
exceed 85°. I check our temperatures when
a quote is written, and on the morning your box
is to be shipped. If a delay is necessary, I will
keep in close contact to get the fish to you as
safely and as quickly as possible.
If you wish to place an order, and
temperatures are prohibitive, I will check our
temperatures each weekend, and contact you
each weekend with whether a shipping date is
possible for the upcoming week. I have done
this for many years, and it has worked well.
Payment does not need to be made until just
prior to your shipping date.
The final line-up here at Select Aquatics is
becoming established, and many species that
sold only briefly following their breeding seasons
are being built out in larger numbers, to be
available for longer periods of the year. Where
there were 30 species here in the past, today
there are 12 of the most rare, in greatest
demand, or lines that were developed here
that have been given more space and are
being built out.
Here is the current status of each of the
species here:
Ataeniobious toweri,
Anteojitas, San Marcos -
After being here now for close to 10 years,
this rare and distinctive population finally
kicked in roughly 2 years ago, and are
in good supply . Many are available in groups
of six 2-4 Month Old Unsexed, as well as
young pairs.
Alfaro cultratus
"The Knife Livebearer"-
Chosen because they have done well
in the water qualities here, are rare in
the hobby, and have always been in good
demand. Their numbers are doing well,
sold primarily as young sexed pairs.
Ameca splendens, Rio
Teuchitlan - This
particularly attractive population continues
to do very well, and though in strong
demand, their rate of reproduction has
kept them pretty routinely available in
groups of six 2-4 Month Old
Unsexed, and limited young pairs.
Ilyodon furcidens -
Selectively bred for
color and markings since 2004 - Their
numbers were knocked down roughly
two years ago, and are coming back
strong. The pulling and sorting of them
was shown in the most recent Select
Aquatics Questions video, Posted
on 6-10.
Limia
Islai "Tiger"- These are in good
supply and have been here since 2000,
from the original collection. These are
available in groups of Six 2-4 Month Old
Unsexed.
Limia Perugia, Boca de Cachon- These
are currently doing very well, and a number
of young are coming up that will be
available in groups of two young pairs.
Hopefully, groups of six 2-4 Month Old
Unsexed will also be available soon.
Odessa Barbs- A recent
full sized batch
was recently bought up and a new batch
is being started to be ready in in groups of
six 2-4 Month Old Unsexed within roughly
6-8 weeks.
Plecostomus Green Dragon-
The groups
of Green Dragons had an average
production this year, and there are more
short fins and albinos. My number of
longfin Green Dragons will be slightly
reduced when their Availability Video
is posted. I am hoping to produce
100, but may not meet that. With the
reduction in species here I will be
setting up more breeding groups
toward next year, and continuing to
focus on building them out.
Synodontis lucipinnis-
The F1s selected
for high contrast are just now starting to
breed, and I am hoping to focus on them
and produce fry again soon.
Xenotoca
doadrioi - Their recent breeding
season was only fair in production for them
this year, but numerous breeding groups
have produced enough fry so that groups
of 2 young pairs should be available soon.
Xiphophorus Montezuma- Though here
for over 10 years, my population was
moved to another fishroom where they
were well maintained. Customers have
been writing that the Montezumas are
again becoming difficult to find, and may
again be disappearing from the hobby.
I re-obtained my line a few months ago.
Numerous fry are doing well, and I hope
to be offering them again within roughly the
next year.
Zoogoneticus tequila, Rio
Teuchitlan -
Their breeding is kicking in now, and their
overall numbers are picking up. I anticipate
being able to offer groups of two young pair
soon.
Those are all of the species I have here today.
I continue to work on the free AquariumCareApp,
which will be all about freshwater husbandry,
and am on steady course to post it within
the next couple months.

Mr. Sage provided me with the
best experience I could've asked for. The wonderful fish he
breeds are priced
very affordably, and are super high quality.
He always responded to our emails swiftly and was extremely
helpful with any questions and concerns we had.
His packaging of the fish was phenomenal, and all (even the
extras!) arrived across the country in excellent
condition!
They are beautiful, healthy, and active. it was incredibly
stress-free as I knew I could trust the process.
Despite a small delay due to the USPS, Greg quickly assured us
that the fish would be fine.
Mr.
Sage has a great reputation in the livebearer hobby, and I can
say he has totally lived up to that
reputation for me and I'm looking forward to ordering from him
again! I seriously can't recommend him
enough.
Thank you for all you do for the hobby, Mr. Sage!
Christina K. NY
First, off thank you for the beautiful fish. Every time I
receive a new species from you I am always surprised by
how much more beautiful they are in real life versus the picture. The
Alfaro cultratus you sent for example are far more
stunning than any picture I have ever seen of them. That includes Google
image searches.
Jay G., The
Woodlands, TX
Hi Greg,
The
Odessa barbs are here, in GREAT shape, and currently
'acclimatizing' in a 5 gallon bucket with my own
graduated drip system.
Thank
you very, VERY much for your attention and care and patience
with me throughout this process. I've been
receiving fish via express mail for 30 years but your packing is a whole
new universe from what I've ever experienced.
Thank you
again for the 'bonus' fish which I counted as 8 but my wife
insists is 9. She also could not believe the packing
or condition of the fish. Also, thank you for the
anticipated forwarding of the rebate check for the excess
shipping charge.
When everything stabilizes, I'll forward some pics.
Again this has been the best fish purchasing experience I've
ever had.
